Madam, or madame, is a polite form of address for women, often contracted to "ma'am". The abbreviation is "Mme." and the plural is mesdames (abbreviated Mmes.) The term was borrowed from the French madame (French pronunciation: [ma'dam]), which means "my lady".
Madam also refers to a woman (often past her prime) who owns or manages a brothel but usually does not prostitute herself.

The blood that was formerly flowing through the body is drawn to the lowest point in the body by the influence of gravity. Typically, postmortem lividity appears as a bluish-purple or reddish-purple color in the regions of the body that are in close contact with the ground. Areas that are further removed from the ground can be pink at the periphery of the discoloration.
